Field Study Initial Question

Posted by lcl6 on June 21, 2008

What is the effect of communication with students outside classroom time, on student learning, motivation and achievement?

Embedded topics and questions:

How to illicit communication among students?

How to motivate students without marks?

How might internal self-discipline replace external and teacher-centred learning?

How am I going to instill more self-motivation in students?

How am I going to motivate weak learners to seek help outside of class time?

How do I integrate class material and technology?

How do I use web literacy to improve communication and interpersonal relationships?

    Hey Lawrence
I have a similar dilemma. I used a blog with modest success in Year One. I did, however, tie their participation to a mark. I teach Design and Tech and as part of a Engineering unit I had the students post an analysis of their work and try to forecast where their structure would break. It worked out well but I motivating students to participate without dangling marks in front of them will be challenging.

What kind of communication are you thinking of using?
